Delayed Blog Posts

There are four blog posts that I have been unsuccessful in uploading for several weeks. I remained patient and persistent and they are finally working. The following posts were worth waiting for but occurred several weeks ago:
1. The Littlest Seed
2. Open House
3. Whale of a Time
4. Instrumental Music

Open House

We had an exciting open house with a book fair, ice cream social, classrooms with student work, a wellness fair, art auction and more!

The Littlest Seed

Mrs. Craven's class read The Littlest Seed by Eric Carle and drew their own beautiful flowers in this gorgeous day!

A Whale of a Time

Mrs. McGinnis presented information about whales that connected to the second graders' study of ocean animals and their habitat. She had the children captivated as she played sound bites of whales talking to one another. They were completely mesmerized as she blew up a life-sized whale that almost filled our entire gymnasium. This assembly was outstanding!

Think About Instrumental Music

Third graders got an instrumental music presentation by Kevin Zajas, the instrumental music teacher at Proctor to expose them to some options for fourth grade. They even got to touch the instruments!

Project-Based Learning in Grade 3

Students in grade 3 were able to choose their own topics and research them, so long as they could find their own valuable resources.  They presented them to their peers, who took learning notes along the way.

Under the Sea

Mrs. Mack/Mrs. Granoth's second grade class went under the sea!

Tritown Council and the Developmental Assets

Meredith Shaw and Lisa Teichner came to work with our second graders to help them understand the many ways that adults at Steward School support them and their developmental assets.  Children were given options for the way they presented their thanks yous to the adults who care.  They could draw a picture, make a card or write a letter.

Our New Tree!

Thanks to the Peabody and LeRoyer families for planting this new Butterfly Magnolia tree in honor of Arbor Day.  We had to wait for the weather to be in our favor and it was worth the wait!

Principal for the Day!

Nico was our Principal for the Day and he is exhausted!  Nico answered phones, opened the door, stamped bus notes, gave a tour, did a security check, read to a class, helped a student in need, had lunch in his office with friends and his brother and announced an extra five minutes of recess.  I loved having a helper and he was an amazing principal!

Third Grade Tile Wall

We would like to thank all the parents who donated to the Tile Wall Project over the past 3 years and TESPTO who supported this project as well!  A huge thank you to Barry Watson of Watson Masonry Company and of course Mrs Lang and thee Preschool Teachers who make the Square 1 Art fundraiser possible.

We strongly encourage future third grade families to donate to this cause as we would love for our students to come back and see their tile or have their own children attend Steward some day and see their parent's tile on the wall.

Please take a look the next time you are at Steward.  We will be putting up our new third grade tiles soon!

Teacher Appreciation Week

We want to thank all those children and families who wrote cards and sent in tokens of appreciation.  We also want to thank TESPTO for the wonderful breakfast and for helping to purchase the most perfect gift, a pen, stylus and light that added to our amazing TEACHERS ROCK, rock concert.

For teacher appreciation the children and I planned a rock concert, complete with star sunglasses, lights for the light show, blow up guitars and saxophones and songs that got our teachers rockin;.  We even sang, Stand By Me, not knowing it would become a tribute to the late B.B. King.  We had so much fun and really enjoyed the finale, a slideshow created by Kristina Young, "A Day in the Life." I am hoping to find more pictures from staff; I was so nervous and excited I forgot to take my own!

State House

You must see these fantastic pictures from the third grade field trip to the state house.  Here is a description and some pictures from Mrs. Rec's blog:
Today we went on a field trip to Boston to visit the State House. We went on a tour and learned a lot about the important things that happen in the building. We visited the Senate Chamber, House Chamber, Memorial Hall and the Govenor's Office. We met State Senator Sal N. DiDomenico and he shared about his role in the government! Each room was beautiful, had so much character and so much history. It was a wonderful experience and we are so grateful that we were able to bring third graders to such an important place in Massachusetts!

Animal Habitats

The Museum of Science brought the Animal Habitats program to Steward School! Look at all the animal skins we got to touch!
