It's Almost Here...

Our annual Dr. Seuss celebration is about to begin!  Next week, we will have our surprise readers and Crazy Hat Day on Wednesday, with many more events to come.  The theme this year is, "Oh, The Places You'll Go." Mrs. Klipfel created this great image depicting my excitement for this themed month of excitement to begin!

The Game

Members of our Steward staff recently played in a basketball game supporting a charity that will donate scholarships to deserving students at the high school level.  This game was in honor of Laurie Hodges, the wife of Ben Hodges, a Masconomet staff member and a resident of my town, Georgetown.  We sold out the stadium with over 850 tickets.  Mr. Dienstmann, Mrs. B, Mrs. Costa and Miss O'Leary all played and had a ball!

Lucy made some new friends too!

Happy 100th Day!

We made it to 100 Days. Here are our first graders wearing 100 of something on their vests!
100 Famous Americans!

Happy Valentine's Day!

This sums it up!

Polar Habitats and Adaptation Experiments

The second graders have been engaged in experiments all morning, learning more about habitats and adaptations.
Learning about camouflage
The children were given ten seconds to pick up as many butterflies as possible.  Can you see the ones with a print?
Polar Bear Foot: The children had to find objects that matched the size of a polar bear's foot.
Freezing!: Children had to feel the temperature without "blubber"
Children added "blubber" to their fingers to feel the difference in temperature
Observing icebergs
How is a feather different when dipped in water or dipped in oil?

Checking Our Pumpkin

We have been tracking a pumpkin and its changing state as the climate changes.  The children have been measuring the circumference and, on this day, we discovered the pumpkin was "smushy." The children could put thier fingers into the sides and make dents. This is science and math in action!

Snow Fun!

The children have been having a "ball" making snowmen and forts all over the back field!

Polar Performance in Grade Two

Today we had a production in grade two that brought to light our melting ice caps. Although this performance had a powerful message, the children also had fun and showed their many talents. Thank you to Mindy Swanson and Jen LaRussa for all their hard work, along with the students at Proctor who made the masks. We could not have done it without the support of our second grade teachers either!
