Celebrating 50 Years at Steward

Yesterday we had an assembly to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Steward School. Mrs. Melanie Sandman, a teacher at Proctor School and one of the first students to arrive at Steward on opening day, reenacted this experience of moving from Proctor School to Steward School holding a brown paper bag filled with her belongings. She talked about the change from the little wooden desk to a brand-new metal desk that opened at the top. She talked about the smells and tastes on that very first day and all the teachers that she had had throughout her years at Steward School.  As a token, she gave each child a feather. This feather was meant to remind the children of the quill  weathervane at the top of Steward School.  She wanted the children to equate this feather with their memories of Steward School, which she encouraged to keep forever in their hearts.  We thank her for coming and Mr. MacElhiney for coordinating this incredible experience.
